Dental Check-ups

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends all children see a pediatric dentist by age one.  Dr. Kurt encourages early intervention through professional dental check-ups.  From toddlers to teenagers, a visit to Wasatch Pediatric Dentistry will give you something to smile about.  At your check-up appointment we will complete a dental cleaning and examination of your child’s teeth.  Digital radiographs can be taken to increase diagnostic ability and greatly reduce radiation exposure. Radiographs give a clear picture of how your child’s teeth are growing.  Dental check-ups are the best way to spot problems early on and promote a lifetime of healthy, straight teeth.

Establishing Healthy Dental Habits

Regular check-ups and professional cleanings are an important part of keeping smiles healthy and locating trouble areas, but establishing a daily home care routine is even more beneficial.  Wasatch Pediatric Dentistry in Providence will help start your children on the right path for life-long healthy oral habits.  By establishing healthy dental habits early in a child’s life we can prevent future problems such as cavities or other more serious issues.  When you help a child to properly brush and floss you are saving time, money, and future tears.  Help your kiddos get over that fear of visiting the dentist by bringing them in early and often.  Set them up for success and a lifetime of healthy smiles!

Restorative Dentistry

Once digital radiographs are taken during your child’s regular check-up Dr. Kurt can clearly see any problems or trouble areas with your child’s teeth.  Restorative dentistry is treatment of any damage or diseases of the teeth in order to restore them to their original health or prevent any further damage.  Restorative dentistry treatments may include filling cavities, placing crowns, removing teeth, or placing spacer maintainers.  You can expect visits for restorative treatments to take a little longer than regular check-ups.  They can also sometimes seem scary or stressful for children.  Dr. Kurt and his skilled staff will provide gentle care to ensure your child feels safe, comfortable and confident.

Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry is an important part of pediatric dentistry.  This is a good option for children that are squirmy, nervous, anxious – or even down right scared.  If your child needs special dental treatment, there are a few options that we offer in order to provide the best possible pediatric care for your child.

Options include:

1. Local Anesthesia - This is always the simplest option. It involves injecting a numbing medication around the area to be treated. This is often combined with nitrous oxide.
2. Nitrous Oxide - Also known as “laughing gas,” this can be a supplement to a local anesthetic. Since the patient remembers most of the procedure, it does not work well for children who are dental phobic or cannot sit still through dental treatment. This process is best used to reduce minor anxiety.
3. Oral Sedation - This can be a great option for a moderately nervous child when the planned treatment is expected to last a little longer. The child is given a syrup to drink which has a sedative effect to relax patients for the procedure. The medication often takes 20 minutes to work, so parents will need to take an active role in administering it to the child.
4. General Anesthesia - When children need a lot of dental treatment, or their fear is too great to accomplish treatment in the dental chair, general anesthesia is a comfortable and safe option. This level of care can be rendered with the help of an anesthesiologist.
