Dental Check-ups

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends all children see a pediatric dentist by age one.  Dr. Kurt encourages early intervention through professional dental check-ups.  From toddlers to teenagers, a visit to Wasatch Pediatric Dentistry will give you something to smile about.  At your check-up appointment we will complete a dental cleaning and examination of your child’s teeth.  Digital radiographs can be taken to increase diagnostic ability and greatly reduce radiation exposure. Radiographs give a clear picture of how your child’s teeth are growing.  Dental check-ups are the best way to spot problems early on and promote a lifetime of healthy, straight teeth.

Establishing Healthy Dental Habits

Consistent professional dental check-ups and cleanings are crucial for maintaining healthy smiles and identifying potential issues. However, crafting a daily oral care routine at home is arguably more essential. At Wasatch Pediatric Dentistry in Providence, we aim to set your children on the pathway to lifelong healthy dental practices. Initiating these beneficial dental habits early in your child's life can be key to warding off future complications such as tooth decay or even more pronounced issues. Assisting a child in correctly brushing and flossing can lead to saved time, funds, and future distress. Encourage your children to overcome dental visit anxieties by introducing them to the dentist at an early age and frequently. Lay the foundation for their success and a future filled with healthy smiles!

Restorative Dentistry

During your child's routine dental visit, Dr. Kurt leverages digital radiographs to gain a comprehensive view of potential dental issues. Restorative dentistry, a service we provide, focuses on treating teeth damages or diseases and restoring them to their prime health. This can involve various procedures such as filling cavities, crowning teeth, tooth extractions, or installing spacer maintainers. Restorative treatments typically require a bit more time compared to regular check-ups and might appear daunting for children. However, with Dr. Kurt and his proficient team, your child's comfort and sense of safety take precedence. Our team ensures nurturing and gentle care for a smooth, confident dental experience.

Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry is an important part of pediatric dentistry.  This is a good option for children that are squirmy, nervous, anxious – or even down right scared.  If your child needs special dental treatment, there are a few options that we offer in order to provide the best possible pediatric care for your child.

Options include:

1. Local Anesthesia - This is always the simplest option. It involves injecting a numbing medication around the area to be treated. This is often combined with nitrous oxide.
2. Nitrous Oxide - Also known as “laughing gas,” this can be a supplement to a local anesthetic. Since the patient remembers most of the procedure, it does not work well for children who are dental phobic or cannot sit still through dental treatment. This process is best used to reduce minor anxiety.
3. Oral Sedation - This can be a great option for a moderately nervous child when the planned treatment is expected to last a little longer. The child is given a syrup to drink which has a sedative effect to relax patients for the procedure. The medication often takes 20 minutes to work, so parents will need to take an active role in administering it to the child.
4. General Anesthesia - When children need a lot of dental treatment, or their fear is too great to accomplish treatment in the dental chair, general anesthesia is a comfortable and safe option. This level of care can be rendered with the help of an anesthesiologist.

Emergency Dentistry

Have an accident and need emergency dentistry in Providence, Logan, or somewhere else in Cache County?  Dr. Kurt often sees children after trip-and-fall accidents, sports injuries, or sudden and painful toothaches that seem to only happen after  regular business hours.  It’s important to remember that if your child has any serious cuts or other bodily injuries as the result of an accident, it is best to visit the emergency room first.  After your child’s primary health and well-being is looked after, Wasatch Pediatric Dentistry will step in and provide quality dental care to restore a comfortable smile.
